Indian Ocean Defence & Security 2024 – Where AUKUS meets the QUAD

Energy Power Systems are excited to announce our participation as an exhibitor at IODS 2024. This prestigious event brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss and showcase the latest advancements in defence and security. As an exhibitor collaborating with Cat® and Westrac, we look forward to presenting our innovative solutions and engaging with key stakeholders to explore collaborative opportunities in the Marine and defence industry.

Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States are exploring opportunities in developing joint advanced military capabilities under the AUKUS partnership, including provision of nuclear-powered submarines and development of a range of advanced technologies across all facets of defence capability.

Meanwhile regional tensions and the growing strategic importance of the Indian Ocean are also bringing focus to Australia’s role within the Quad diplomatic partnership, between Australia, India, Japan and the United States.

Taking place at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from Wednesday 24 – Friday 26 July 2024, Indian Ocean Defence & Security 2024 (IODS 2024), , the geographic fulcrum between the UK, India, Japan and US, key Australian and international government, defence and industry leaders will explore the theme: Where AUKUS Meets The Quad.

The event will highlight challenges and opportunities for international engagement, and delve into how Australian industry may support diplomacy, defence and security policy in the region.

It is presented by Defence West and the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation with organiser, AMDA Foundation Limited. The Indian Ocean Defence & Security 2024 Conference program is developed with Defence West and the Perth USAsia Centre.

IODS 2024 is an industry-only trade event. The exposition and conference sessions are reserved for those with a professional, defence, governmental agency, business, academic, scientific, operational or response involvement in related government or industry sectors. The event is not open to the general public.

Powering Australia’s Largest Catamaran – M/Y Charley 2

We take great pride in supporting the delivery of the largest catamaran motor yacht built in Australia by Echo Yachts – 56m M/Y Charley 2.

  • Marine

As the authorised Australian Caterpillar Dealership, our EPSA Marine Excellence Centre (MEC) provided a comprehensive power systems solution for the MY Charley 2.

The vessel is powered by:

  • Two Caterpillar C32 ACERT main propulsion engines with an output of 1193 bkW @ 2300 rpm.
  • Driving ZF3350 gearboxes through carbon fibre resilient couplings.

The package also included custom built local operating panels for main engines with three Caterpillar C4.4 generator sets, rated at 99 ekW @ 1500 rpm (50 Hz).

The overall scope of this project involved engineering, application-installation support, project management, commissioning and sea trials for the complete turkey solution.

During the commissioning and sea trials, the C4.4 generator sets and the C32 main engines met all the Caterpillar performance requirements, with the catamaran achieving the desired speed of 17 knots.

Powering Island Transport

  • Marine

With the re-opening of Hayman Island by InterContinental resort in July, Brisbane-based Aus Ships Group worked on custom-designed vessels for the refurbished resort – including a luxury ferry powered by Cat®.

The resort was badly damaged during Tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017 but these new transport and leisure vessels were all delivered ahead of the island’s reopening.

The 400-hectare private island resort occupies the most northerly of the Whitsunday Islands and part of its luxury offering will be the new transport and leisure vessels available to guests.
