This Engine Room reveals the many ways that we are moving forward as a business with innovations in technology, commitments to renewable energy and responsiveness to major power crises. We’re using cutting-edge app technology to support our sales teams and utilising software developments to foster business efficiencies. We’ve helped take businesses in the Solomon Islands off the grid and our Cat® VisionLink system was successfully put to the test when we located a customer’s stolen generator on a farm in the Eastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. We’ve also been first to support our fellow Australians in times of need. Among the many examples is the South Australian Rental team immediately responding to the power outage challenges recently faced by that state. And I’m delighted that our work has continued to develop on projects with our Cat Dealer Network – the story of our support for the crayfish industry on page 8 reveals this in action. And I’m also pleased to hear first-hand the words of Tory Shenstone as she discusses the opportunities for women in this industry. In an age where gender equality in the workplace is under debate, I am proud of our commitment to equal opportunity at EPSA and in the community. This edition travels the country showcasing what we have achieved in 2016, from the Red Centre to Kangaroo Island. This is a wonderful reflection of the diversity of our projects and applications, and the high levels of skill in our Cat® teams across Australia, PNG and the Solomon Islands. Thank you to all and I look forward to continuing our progression in this new year. EPSA have recently launched an augmented reality app to assist the EPR team to sell the Cat® C-series including the C13, C15 and C18. “Creating an augmented reality app allows us to bring static print ads to life, which helps our team showcase our products to customers,” says EPR Segment Manager Dave Cronin. “Augmented reality is the integration of digital information with the user’s environment in real time,” explains Dave. “An example of augmented reality in popular culture is the cult following of ‘Pokémon Go’. It differs from virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, by using the existing environment and overlaying new information on top of it.” “The functionality allows our customers to experience digital 3D in the real world by placing their smart device over a spec sheet and the 3D image of that product is shown on your tablet or mobile device.” “It also plays video and hyperlinks to spec sheets and web pages meaning the opportunities are endless. For example, we could also allow customers to watch a live demonstration from a brochure.” Augmented reality smartphone apps typically include GPS to pinpoint the user’s location and a compass to detect device orientation. The EPR app is available for download on iTunes and Galaxy by searching ‘Cat Power’. 
